The Elan Impression is hard to beat in terms of reputation from drawing board to completion. Her designer, Rob Humphreys has brought to the world such iconic blue-water yachts as Oyster and Southerly to name a few, but also bequeathed to the less wealthy sailors such sturdy, pocket-size little gems of endurance and seaworthiness as the beloved Contessa 27, made famous by several intrepid solo-circumnavigators over several decades. Like many of Humphreys designs, the Elan 434 Impression is built to the standards of the robust Germanischer Lloyd approved construction schedule to ensures structural longevity and which systems and final completed fit-out is further approved for CE standards unlimited offshore travel. There basically isn't an accreditation or award that the Elan 434 failed to secure and maintain! At Nautilus Yacht Management we are proud to bring you the very best cruising yachts on the current world market and this beautiful Elan 434 Impression really ticks all the boxes with regards to what really makes a blue-water cruising yachts. We have thoroughly inspected and know the boat well, so we can absolutely trust that it will bring you years of joy, safety and freedom on the ocean. If Serenity First's pedigree as a cruising yacht is unquestionable but furthermore, she presents beautifully and equipment level as she is today is second-to-none. Other than a little bit of vanishing in traffic areas (minor), this yacht presents without a blemish and can favourable rival a far younger model. Her engine was replaced in 2013 and her current owners, planning a serous cruise from Croatia to Australia cut no corners in making sure that Serenity First was equipped and prepared in a way that they could enjoy their voyage in ultimate safety and comfort. Between 2018 and 2019 the rigging, sails, electronics, ect. were replaced, a new watermaker purchased, safety items added and installed, a smarter and more powerful electrical system designed and put together, etc Everything is now being passed on to Serenity First's new owners and the boat truly presents as a turn-key option with everything on board, from bedding to kitchen needs to a mountain of spare parts, tools and water toys, etc..(the list is too long to compile here). They have also secured an enviable dry storage spot at Vuda Marina for the 2020-2021 cyclone season, which will bring peace of mind to the new owners should they wish to keep the boat in Fiji during the summer. HIGHLIGHTS Designed by the celebrated Jean-Marie Finot as fast and seaworthy blue water cruiser / racer Custom-built to the highest standards by Class Yacht  Built to Class A Unlimited Offshore Standards Designed for circumnavigation. Read on for full description and watch our Youtube presentation for more info ------------------- This beautiful sailing yacht was custom built in 2003 by the shipyard Class Yacht on a design of Jean-Marie Finot for a professional racing sailor who wanted a performance cruising yacht able to sail him and his family fast and safely around the world. He kept her for 10 years and sold her to an Italian colleague, another racing and professional skipper who was looking for the exact same quality in a cruising yacht and who after purchase in 2013 and throughout his cruising years whenever he identified something as  needing to be replaced.. The list of upgrades is impressive and ensures that the boat will continue to deliver performance and safety at sea for her new family. Sadly, a change of circumstances has seen her voyage interrupted for now as the owner must return to Italy. Months of cruising were wasted in Covid-19 lockdown and her voyage has been cut short. If borders are now strrating to re-open for cruisers as they have the privilege to be in isolation at sea for long period of time and represent little danger to visited countries, Zahir's owner has run out of time. The yacht has been handed over to our team in Fiji to take care of her and to liaise with you should you be interested to find out more. Since Covid-19 rendered actual visits a little tricky, we are now very used to carry out inspections via Zoom or WhatsApp, which is working very well and are happy to spend as much time with you as you wish showing you the boat via your iPad, phone or Computer. We are cruising yachts specialist and are here to help Zahir is an exceptional boat, which combines a sleek, racing profile with a serious 'can do attitude' designed to be at home in all ocean conditions. Her 8mm GRP construction has been reinforced with additional layers of Kevlar over the whole hull for extra strength and resistance to impact should you be unlucky enough to hit something at sea. To prevent twisting and bending of the hull while under stress (very much a problem on production boats), her hull is further reinforced with a stainless steel frame similar to the designs of the Nautor Swans and X-Yachts designed for serious bluewater cruising. Her keel is not just attached to the GRP hull. It is attached to the steel frame first and thus incredibly well bonded to the boat. Her chainplates are attached to a reinforced stainless steel brace which reached deep towards the centre of the boat and help spread the chainplates efforts. Her decks, which used be GRP / closed cell foam sandwich with teak covering, has been fully renovated and reinforced in 2013. Instead of replacing the teak, which was aged, the owner had the teak removed and the deck throughly prepared for strengthening. 3 additional layers of glass matt and epoxy high-build were applied followed with a non-skid paint from an excellent manufacturer in New Zealand. The decks now have an 8mm Epoxy lamination and are extremely strong as well as low maintenance. Her sails were replaced in 2019 and her rigging in 2018. Her reliable Yanmar engine was removed and completely rebuilt. All through-hull fittings were replaced. The lost goes on... Zahir, true to her form as a yacht design to circumnavigate, also come with a spare, emergency rudder that is ready to drop in brackets already fitted to the transom in case of failure. The rudder comes with its own tiller, and there is the additional emergency tiller ready to deploy. Self-Steering, one of the most important factor for solo-sailors, is supplied by a reliable autopilot, with an additional autopilot wired and ready to use at the push of a button should the primary one fail... plus the sturdy Wind Pilot, perfect for ocean crossings. Watching the owner effortlessly raise the sails and power into the wind at Musket Cove the other day, it is easy to see that his claim that the boat is set up for solo sailing is absolutely justified. Steering comfortably between the reefs, he quickly gained momentum and in spite the very light breeze quickly had us chasing him on the speed boat. (Watch our Youtube Video) Power winches take the hard work out of raising and trimming the sails, while dedicated clutched for each rope make cleats and other agricultural deck hardware redundant. Aesthetically hidden in the deep and wide anchor locker the retractable carbon fibre bowsprit is ready to be easily deployed to fit out the Gennaker. Anchoring is done seamlessly, with the dedicated anchor bowsprit and articulated roller tease the friction of the sail on retrieval. There are two anchors, onearelady fittedtoits100m stainless steel chain, which is big enough to hold Zahir through any whims the weather. An additional anchor is stored below. For those used to having to flake anchor chain or risk their limbs spreading the chain bulk in order to de-anchor, Zahir boast the rare and very refreshing asset not having this issue. The chain falls into a deep well with plenty of room to accomodate even that amount of chain all pulled up in one go. The cockpit is wide and open, with very good shade to get away from the tropical sun or rain and to entertain many guests for dinner. Because of arrow Zahir's shape, it is wide and the centre table does not impede on traffic. The two carbon fibre wheels are sturdy and not too large, giving you back space for when you want to move around. The cockpit has several large lazarettes and storage lockers, as well as the access hatch for the engine and another one for the steering quadrant. (The video shows it all. Follow the link to our Youtube presentation) Inside, Jean-Marie Finot does not let us down. The superb saloon is wide open and welcoming. The galley, U-shape is large is suited to cooking while at sea. The saloon, which curves around a mahogany table, is comfortable and large enough to sit 8 people comfortably. The headroom is over 6.4 at it's minimum. Forward is the Master cabin, with it's queen size bed and full-size settee in white leather still in very good condition. The cabin door, large and curved, slides into into the bulkhead to free up space. Forward is the large ensuite head area with shower and electric toilet. Forward again is the crew cabin, which can be accessed via the deck hatch or a door in the forward bathroom. It has single bunk beds, a manual toilet and wash-basin. A large sail locker is accessed via a deck hatch forward of the crew cabin. Going back aft are two guests cabins with queen / king size beds and each their own ensuite electric head and shower. Storage for everything is abundant and well-suited to extended life onboard.   ---------------- Read on for the full description and for more information please contact our friendly team at Nautilus Yacht Management. 6. Catana 521

    Catana 521

    Suva, Fidji
    2003
    €585 970 (Vente en cours)

Catana 521 "O2" is an exquisite owner version, blue water performance catamaran.  Many listings lay claim to be the “best equipped” or "best refit"! Scroll down to the specification sections and view the walk-through video and judge for yourself! In the last two years this Catana 521 has had nearly $300,000 spent in upgrades and new equipment. "O2" is in outstanding condition and has never been chartered. She's ready to go and has everything needed for crossing oceans, from new sails and standing rigging down to ocean passaging pilot books for the Pacific Ocean. "O2" has been lovingly maintained to a very high standard; kept light (mindful of how weight affects performance), she is fast and the passion of the current owners, who pay great attention to every detail and take great pride in her condition, shines through. I have been involved in the marketing and sale of several Catana 52s in the last ten years. "O2" stands out as the most comprehensively equipped and meticulously maintained. "O2" started life in privileged fashion: she was built by Dominique Marsaudon in Lorient in 2003. This is no ordinary Catana therefore as Marsaudon is the Mozart of composites, best known for having built several racing (IDEC, GROUPAMA) and cruising multihulls (the TS42, TS5 series) in what is the capital of French multihull sailing.    We have known the owners of O2 for a number of years and have visited the yacht on several occasions as she travelled the Caribbean and the US East Coast. Seldom have I met such passionate, knowledgeable yachtsmen who know what it takes to sail a blue water cat efficiently and to maintain it at the highest level. The owners have owned several cats, are accomplished sailors and have brought years of multihull experience to bear in the specification of this superb yacht. The higher-than-average specification, beautiful condition, and the attention to detail paid by the current owners ensures "O2" looks much newer than other comparable sister-ships. She's been continuously upgraded almost regardless of cost. Catana… Legendary design, performance, quality, comfort and safety (unsinkable), the Catana 52s are primarily aimed at the bespoke owners market and those that want to cruise seriously. The Catana 52's high bridge-deck clearance gives a very smooth ride compared with many other catamarans. Dagger-boards provide superior windward performance with the advantage of shallow draft. A beam under 30 ft allows many more opportunities for haul-out and seasonal storage in out-of-the-way places. The yacht's design offers excellent natural ventilation through generous sized, well-placed hatches. Lastly, it has huge volume for carrying all you'll need to circumnavigate, with cavernous space under all bunks, saloon seating and hanging lockers in every cabin, plus huge lockers on deck and in the cockpit. Performance & Handling…This 521 easily achieves double digit speeds. As an example, the owners crossed the Atlantic in absolute comfort and safety in less than 12 days recording a top speed of more than 18 knots. The owners chose the 521 as probably the best and largest catamaran that any couple could comfortably handle and maintain with ease, without the need of crew. It motors economically at 7 knots on one engine or can cruise along with both engines at 8+ knots and has a top speed of 10 knots. The Catana 52's provide high performance ocean passaging in safety & comfort, with uncluttered decks and efficient handling systems… it's so easy for a couple to handle such a large volume cat with powerful Volvo engines (on shaft drives, not sail-drives), two headsail furlers and electric winches for sail handling and launch and recovery of inflatables. Safety First…Additional safety via the latest in Satphone communications plus a full suite of Raymarine equipment including 2 chartplotters (one at inside navigation station, the other at the starboard helm), AIS (send and receive), radar and an SSB.  Style...This is probably one of the best looking catamarans around in her classic, navy blue livery. Her tasteful soft furnishings complete the package, being stylish yet tastefully understated….put simply, she's eye catching by any standard. With her discrete lighting throughout, even at night, she outstanding in every respect. The all new LED lighting (inside and out) is an impressive feature including deck and cockpit lights that guide you safely back to the transom after being ashore Layout/Accommodation... This three cabin “owner layout” is lined throughout in rich Canadian Cherry. The owner cabin bathroom features a large walk-in shower stall and the port guest side offers a huge shower stall and seperate head. The aft port cabin can convert from two singles to a large queen berth. Each of the cabins has a 3ft x 1ft opening window for a panoramic view and generous ventilation. All of the bathroom fixtures were replaced in 2019 with stylish Hansgrohe equipment. The liners in the salon were all replaced, as were the opening hatch lenses and seals.  The large bright and airy bridge deck saloon has a dedicated navigation centre (facing forward) and efficient galley layout including 2 large fridges and a freezer, a Force 10 stove (3 burners and oven), Microwave, ample cupboards, loads of storage, a generous dining table that seats 8 comfortably. This leads directly through sliding doors to the cockpit area. A nice feature is the way food and drinks can be easily passed from the galley directly to the cockpit dinning table using the sliding window adjacent the companionway door. The galley sink and faucets are new from Hansgrohe adding a very nice touch.   In addition to power reversible air conditioning for use when in marinas or on the new Northern Lights generator (787 hours), "Nature's AC" is still the best, cheapest and most reliable. Ventilation is provided via a total of 16 hatches/windows that keep this cat cool! There are four large forward facing hatches in the saloon and one in each hull forward (inside the hulls and called "Dolphin Hatches"); these provide masses of cooling air that passes throughout the accommodation. In addition, there are four huge top opening hatches (3ft x 1 ft) on the outside of each hull and six smaller hatches. The large sliding door & window to the saloon ensures a cooling breeze through to the cockpit and outside dining area and an additional sliding screen door keeps the bugs out of the boat. To further enhance cooling there are reflective screens on all salon windows and great awnings all around the cockpit so you'll never get too hot.  Cockpit and outside…This is the hub of a superbly designed entertainment and "living area" that has sun awnings on all three sides, sumptuous reclining seats to relax in and take in the panoramic view and there's seating for 12 in comfort or dining for 8 at the foldout table. Larger parties could easily be accommodated in this area, which is generous by any standard. The fabulous new canvas work in Sunbrella exudes style and taste with complimenting cushions and folding deck seats, discrete lighting in the cockpit area enhances further the entertaining experience. Foredeck…The awning that covers the foredeck, (when required), is great for lazing under in the hammock and provides ample space for parties to enjoy sundowners in the cool breezes. In addition there are cushions for relaxing or reading in the cool shade. The decks are clear and uncluttered for easy and safe walk-around, all roller reefing and spinnaker guys control lines are neatly led aft through under deck conduits. Storage…Masses of storages are provided to take all you need for a circumnavigation with 2 cavernous lockers forward that can holds things like sails, bikes, passerelle, fortress anchors, kite boards, surfboards, fenders and mooring lines etc.. In the cockpit, there are 3 huge lockers that have a combined area about 6ft x 12 ft x 2 ft 6 " deep. Equipped to Circumnavigate…This seriously equipped "Sailor's Cat" is set up for long distance ocean/Trade Wind cruising at it's very best. With it's custom bowsprit design it can handle a sail wardrobe of three headsails for all conditions: two furling sails and a spinnaker…it can honestly be described as a offshore sailors dream catamaran. The mainsail and two of the 3 headsails are brand new 2020: Main: 1000 sq ft (100 sq mtrs) Full batten with three reef Carbon DP, new 2020 Genoa: 750 sq ft (70 sq mtrs) on Profurl roller furler Carbon DP, new 2020 Screecher: 1,100 sq ft (100 sq mtrs), on removeable headstay, new 2020 Symmetric Spinnaker: 1,800 sq ft (170 sq mtrs) with snuffer. Great for dead downwind sailing Upgrades & Special Equipment…"O2" is equipped with a Lorima carbon mast and Park Avenue boom -  the very best. The standing rigging is all new Dyform in 2019 for excellent reliability offshore and in remote places. The Northern Lights generator and watermaker are new in 2019. The boat was rewired and has a new electrical panel 2019. There is a new Mastervolt charger/inverter; a new dive compressor and other recreational equipment. The upgrades and new equipment are too numerous to list and all carefully detailed in the specification attached.  If you are in the market for a genuine blue-water cruiser in top condition, you owe it to yourself to consider "02" carefully. It is fast with modern prismatic hulls, power generating wide beam and the highest quality finishes, fittings and workmanship. This catamaran has a stable configuration, excellent handling ability and Airex foam core vacuum bag construction. SV Lauren Grace was built in a modern facility using state of the art materials and workmanship. All Knysna yachts are designed to cross oceans in safety and comfort. Built in 2004 SV 'REBEL' was previousoy named 'Lauren Grace'. Her previous owners, a couple from the US, purchased her new from the Knysna Factory in South Africa and sailed her around the world for many years before sellign her in February this year to a group of Polish explorers who were organising expedtions to remote parts of the world. The owner's program now growing quickly, they have set their heart on a 75' catamran to rebuild and fit-out to grow their business and have offered 'Rebel' for sale at a very reaosnable price. As they did not think they would need a bigger boat so quickly when purchasing Rebel this year, they lavished a lot of expenses and attention to her, making her even more beautiful and well equipped than she previously was. 'Rebel' is a proven example of the high standards represented by this world class builder and was chosen because of her sea-keeping qualites by her pervious and current owners. Purchased already in near perfect condition in February 2019 by her current owner she was further upgraded with a new watermaker, new electronics, SSB and radios, instruments, anchors, and was fully repainted inside for a very bright and fresh interior. Her full pre-purchase survey is still current and is available in request. Her engines were both serviced again 2 hours ago and like the rest of the boat, are absolutely immaculate. -'SY REBEL' WALK-THROUGH: 'Rebel' is an immaculately presented cruising catamaran designed and built to the highest standards in South Africa, close to the Leopard Catamaran's factory and with similar criteria in mind with regards to ensuring maximum safety and seaworthiness in the challenging Southern Ocean. Unlike many production yachts, the Knysna is not mass produced, but built by a boutique-style company which puts high value in one-on-one customer satisfaction and meets the most stringent criteria. This philosophy is obvious when stepping on board 'Rebel', which was clearly built with strength, durability and attention to detail in mind. The Knysna Yacht Company is based in Knysna, (the K is silent), famed for the dangerous entrance to the Lagoon known as the Knysna Heads, and being situated on the East Coast of South Africa on the Indian Ocean; our yachts are tried and tested in some of the world's most challenging sea conditions. Light, fast and set-up as a spacious live-aboard, she is a lovely and bright home at rest, and a sensational cruising catamaran at play. Built quite low, with high bows and extended transoms, her design maximizes adherence to the water and minimizes wind tunnelling, while remaining comfortable in large seas. Her turn of speed and higher pointing to the wind is surprisingly good for a cruising catamaran without daggerboards. Launched via her elegant transoms, 'Rebel's first feature is her teak cross-running transom, which is fitted with snap shackles and where the dinghy can easily be launched and retrieved. There is a solid outboard bracket designed to accommodate a large outboard in upright position when on passage. Stepping into the cockpit, the area is safely separated from the transoms, and built in a way to maximize seating area without impeding on the traffic to and from the deck and steering. A large table becomes unobtrusive when folded but once opened can accommodate 6-8 people comfortably. The cockpit is covered by a solid Bimini, which is built of GRP Airex foam core, which despite being very light is strong enough for any adult to walk on. Several steps built into the forefront of the coach roof allows easy access to the Bimini top, which makes reaching the sail bag and lazy jacks if needed simple and safe. The cockpit is enclosable by custom-made clears that can be rolled up or removed when not needed. The Bimini is also designed to catch rain water with a cleverly designed catchment system. Up a step is the steering station, which offers outstanding visibility on all corners of the boat, which is often inadequate on catamarans. All instruments, controls and sheets are within easy access, and the angle of the radar display which is installed inside can be seen from this station. The saloon is accessed through a large sliding glass door. It is large, bright and intelligently laid-out, with a triangular shape saloon to one side and a large navigation table on the other. The panoramic view over the water from the large windows is outstanding. The galley is down two steps to provide a huge working area while remaining on an open split-level to the saloon, so that guests and cook can communicate. The galley being designed this way also means that almost one entire third of the port hull is devoted to food preparation and storage, which is often lacking on boats of all size. Everything is spotless and well organised. Moving forward is the master stateroom, with a queen size berth, lockers, vanity, mirror, and plenty of natural light through the large overhead hatches. There is a huge amount of storage available beneath the bed, the upholstered bench / step at the foot of the bed, and in various lockers and wardrobes, All the cabins are bright and airy, freshly painted and very welcoming. The master ensuite is huge, and includes a bathtub with overhead shower, wash basin and cupboard. The head area is well lit by an overhead hatch and the escape hatch on the inner side of the hull. Aft is another large double cabin fitted with a queen size berth and many storage lockers. This cabin, as the similar aft cabin in the other hull, is mostly used for storage at present but is equipped with a comfortable double mattress. Mirroring the port side of the boat, the starboard side is similarly configured, with the large bathroom forward (without the bathtub), another toilet, and two queen size cabins with ample storage. The passageway is an ideal area to store books and manuals, as well as tools, parts and equipment. It would also make an excellent home office. As with the rest of the boat, everything is tidily organised and immaculately clean. Access to the engines, which are freee of corrosion and spotless, as is the engine bay, is below the aft cabin berths. The area is wide enough for an adult to easily access all parts of the engine for servicing. Moving back on deck, which is easily accessed and safe to manoeuvre in all weather with good non-skid and higher than normal lifelines, the impression of space is breathtaking. One can easily forget that the boat is only 44' long, the amount of usable space is simply amazing. The sharp, elegant bows are reinforced for structural stiffness, especially desirable in the punishing Southern Ocean, and stiffness is over-engineered for the Southern Ocean with a massive cross-deck section and longitudinal double beam spreading from mid-ships to the bow and separating the two trampolines. This is a feature, which many catamaran owners which design does not include this additional reinforcement, often chose to have custom-made. The added benefit is the extra support to the anchor chain all the way to the double roller, and to accommodate a stronger platform for the forestay and articulated bowsprit which is used for screecher sail (asymmetrical spinnaker), which is kept lifted when not in use. 'Rebel' is freshly painted, and her hull, topside and decks are in really beautiful condition. She has been the home of her successive owners since launched, and has been lavished at all time the respect and attention one can expect from cruising owners, who devote themselves to full time caring for their beloved boat, unlike boats normally sitting in marinas between long period of disuse. She is ready to be passed on to her new family in outstanding condition, and with the benefits of her current owners' gentle counsel should you wish for a little guidance to smooth the transition to life aboard, whether you would prefer to remain exploring the 300 paradise islands of Fiji (the boat is imported and can remain here indefinitely), or if you would like to get ready to continue sailing around the world. For someone thinking of investing in a lifestyle with an additional source of income in Fiji, 'Lauren Grace' would also be a very good option to operate as a charter vessel, as she offers many characteristics suitable for the charter industry. -REMARKS: Cockpit has a hard bimini with a rain catcher. New bottom paint/zincs May of 2018. House/start batteries replaced with 7-110 amp AGM batteries 2016. New standing rigging 2016. All equipment in good working order except for wind speed indicator. All periodic engine maintenance completed on timely basis throughout our ownership, log books kept. Comprehensive engine spares. Led lighting in most places. Pls contact for additional information.

WINDOWS POSITIONED FOR SURROUND VIEWS FROM THE INTERIOR TO THE SEA. ‘ROXANNE’ IS A HEAD TURNER INSIDE AND OUT AND A VESSEL OF RARE PERFECTION IN EVERY ASPECT. '------------------- 'Roxanne' is a 60’ aluminum-hulled cruiser with fiberglass / foam composite deck and carbon fiber hard dodger designed for speed and comfortable passages. When the vessel was a developing concept designer Tom Wylie asked the owner what he wanted in a boat. The answer: “A fast, fun boat with no bad habits!” She indeed embodies those traits and, after 23 years of cruising and living aboard, the owner’s not-so-skilled-at-sailing wife can also add this: “What I like most about 'Roxanne' is her forgiving response to my sailing lapses.” Built to be a full-time floating home for the owners and their two sons, Roxanne has been sailed extensively and rapidly throughout the north and south Pacific since departing San Francisco in 2000. Before she departed in 2000, she made her first blue water passage in the 1998 Pacific Cup, when her owner and one other crew member raced her from San Francisco to Hawaii and missed beating the double-handed record, which still stands in 2019, by less than 30 minutes. What you’ll notice first are her clean lines with reverse sheer, stylish hull side windows, hard dodger with open/close canvas top and roomy cockpit. Even when she’s not moving, she looks fast! Give her wind, though, and she slices through the water and makes swift passages averaging 200 nautical miles per day.In the experts' opinion this yacht ticks all the boxes for the perfect boat.  Read on for the full description and for more information please contact our friendly team at Nautilus Yacht Management. The internet abounds with glowing reviews for the Southerly 135s including from big names such as ‘Sail Magazine’ and ‘Cruising World’, commenting on the Southerly’s extraordinary quality of build and the genius of Rob Humphreys’ design. (Please note that the Southerlys are built by Northshore Yachts UK, not Northshore yachts Australia, who manufacture light weights cruiser / racers and are diametrically different yacht manufacturers). When Viking’s owner decided to go sailing around the world, his approach to searching for the perfect boat was methodical. He was looking for the perfect boat: a strong, seaworthy, versatile cruising yacht built to the highest standards and packed with all the features that would truly open the ocean to him, unlimited and able to cope in every situation. After setting his heart on the Southerly 135s, he then became involved throughout the building process and worked with the designer and manufacturer to further improve the specs to create what after 20 years of working in the cruising industry as a shipwright, skipper and specialised yacht broker, I can without hesitation call the most perfect 45’ blue-water cruising yacht I have ever seen. Why did he choose Southerly in the first place? The UK is well known for bringing to the world some of the best quality cruising yachts, and if the are expensive, it is for good reasons. If the French does the mass-produced boat well, the British focus on a smaller output, admittedly with a much higher price range, but use techniques that involve less machine and more hand-build techniques that are no longer profitable to large production lines, but result in yachts that are in every way of far better quality. From the lay of the glass to the finishing touches, everything is subject to the most stringent quality control. Everything from the choice of glass mat, gel coat, resin, timber, fittings hardware, machinery, even down to the tiniest hinge, is carefully chosen for strength and durability.  To further increase this already incredibly seaworthy design, the owner then went further with reinforcing the strength of the boat, particularly against collision and requested that the manufacturer use a solid (no core) Kevlar mat, which is virtually indestructible, for a large part of the bow section and added a watertight bulkhead.  The Westerly 135s is already a very comfortable, easy to sailboat that is built for a beautiful motion at seas while keeping a good turn of speed. To make the going even easier the owner  turned his attention to the sail handling and commissioned a number of extras, including a bow thruster and a furling main sail (both Genoa and Main sail were upgraded to Spectra for better performance and longevity). A primary power winch was added, a cockpit controlled anchor winch with chain counter and all the sheets run aft to the cockpit. The boat is effectively set up for solo-handling or short-handed passages. Next, comfort was further improved by adding air conditioning (14000 BUT) with an additional separate hot air ducted system throughout the boat, a washing machine, and a separate fully set-up work area complete with all the tools needed and of course dedicated storage for everything needed to repaired and maintain everything on board.  Regarding power, the boat is fully equipped to be self-sufficient with solar panels,  a 3.4kva generator (2016) and a full set of brand new batteries (2019). Down below the interior is practical and extremely well though-off. The huge aft cabin with private ensuite rivals much larger boats. It is a veritable owner's stateroom, private from the rest of the boat and comfortable to use in any weather. The raised salon is really what it is, a beautiful area to relax, dine or entertain with a panoramic view of the outside and with direct access to the cockpit. The keel box does not impede on the lower interior, which is divided into a bunk cabin to port with a settee to starboard and a V berth forward. The galley is substantial and well designed for safe use at sea. (Please read the accommodation and galley description on the next page for more details). The important demands for storage capacity for a blue-water cruising yacht are well met. If these are increasingly reduced in modern production boats that favour emphasising open spaces ill-suited to long term travels and live-aboard, the Southerly 135s provides an abundant storage capacity for both everyday items and stores which must be able to be organised and readily accessible, as well as heavier equipment, machinery, etc. There is ample space for everything in intelligently located storage areas. Going back to the general design, the flexibility of the retractable keel is an extraordinary asset for cruisers. Designed for use in the extreme tidal areas of the UK, the boat is perfectly stable on its bottom with the keel retracted and its two strong rudders acting as stabilisers. This feature is perfect for cruising amongst low-lying reefs or when wanting to tuck yourself in away from storm surge in adverse weather. With the keel fully retracted, the profile depth is only 2'9" at its deepest. You can beach the boat to clean her or to access tidal areas. The possibilities are limitless. When at sea, a simple push of a button will extend your draft to a high performance 9’9”. Of course you are also able to chose any other drafts in between depending where you are and wish to go and everything just at the touch of a button positioned next to the helm. To recap, the wonderful Southerly 135s is at home anywhere in the world, in the canals of France as much as in the South Pacific and strong enough to handle as well as equiped to explore the high latitudes and more challenging oceans in the world. She is powerful, sea kindly, reasonably fast and in every way the perfect cruising yacht. ‘Viking’ is a one owner boat that was not only the latest 135s built, she is also the best one thanks to her owner’s improvements both at the time of build and throughout his years of ownership. She has never been chartered, been kept in dry storage several months a year, presents in beautiful condition and is ready to go with you anywhere in the world at a moment’s notice. Please contact Anna at Nautilus Yacht Management for more info. We would be delighted to tell you more about this magnificent boat and to organise an inspection for you. The boat is currently at Vuda Marina, Fiji, which is about 20mn drive from Nadi International Airport.
