Description

“OFF PISTE” represents a rare opportunity to own your dream Bluewater sailboat in excellent condition. A true pilothouse that is truly appreciated both underway and at anchor; with an inside helm, cutaway full keel, massive keel hung rudder with skeg.  A Perfect boat for a serious cruising couple. The Chuck Paine-designed Cabo Rico 42 PH has an excellent reputation as a bluewater cruising boat. Its full underwater profile, sturdy good looks, and quality craftsmanship have helped instill confidence in offshore sailors for years. Beautiful inside and out, fully equipped and solidly built, this Chuck Paine designed sailing vessel is ready now for comfortable, safe passage-making and cruising wherever you want to go and though she is a solid cruising boat she enjoys a PHRF rating of 126 a testimony of her speed under sail.

Sail Magazine has called the Cabo Rico 42' PH “The Ultimate Bluewater Cruiser".

Introduction

The pilothouse has long been a subject of debate among sailors.  Its usefulness offshore is undisputed and to many it has become a downright necessity. “OFF PISTE” has benefitted by the fastidious care and attention of her longtime and knowledgeable owner who has insured she has had the best of care and exceptional on-going maintenance.

The forward cabin is gorgeous, with a full walk around queen-sized bed.  Dedicated and spacious galley with an abundance of storage and useable counter space. Opposite the galley is a seating area with a fold-down table. The seating area can also be used as a good sea-berth.  In this area there is a washer/dryer and separate freezer.

Moving up to a wonderful pilothouse salon that provides excellent 360 degree visibility from a very comfortable STIDD helm chair. Some of the unique features of this area include a comfortable helm-seat with full instrumentation, large windows with custom wood blinds for privacy, the convertible table converts to provide additional single berth, a custom drop-down flat screen TV in ceiling and large Nav-Table behind the helm which can fold open to provide easy access to the aft cabin with a double berth and more storage. Her interior is Costa Rican teak woodwork and is built to a standard rarely seen today and is in fantastic condition, creating a warm, dry and inviting place to seek shelter from the elements. The aft cabin is built for the cruising couple with plenty of storage and a great workshop.

OFF PISTE has a large user-friendly T-shaped cockpit with port and starboard seating and a built-in helm seat. There is a large sail locker to port that affords access to the generator. The aft deck has port and starboard propane lockers and a large lazarette.

Galley

The full service galley is the mid cabin to starboard and two-steps down from the pilothouse. It is appointed with beautiful Costa Rican honey colored teak joinery work, louvered cabinetry, and Corian countertops. Storage is exceptional and abundant with a double cabinet for dishes, two large pantries with double sliding doors, an additional pantry to port, under sink cabinet, and storage bins under the steps.  In addition there are also (10) drawers.

Sails and Rigging

The cutter rig configuration keeps the sail size modest. With the Genoa and Staysail all on furlers, all foresails can be doused without going forward. The in-boom furling allows infinite adjustment of the mainsail size again without leaving the security of the cockpit. There is electric halyard winch. While this is a heavy, powerful boat, sail handling will not require much in the way of brawn. This vessel is equipped with an aluminum double spreader mast with oversized wire rope rigging. It features a clipper bow with furling headsail, furling staysail and second removable staysail (in storage); hank on staysail, running backstays; and a boom furling main. All control lines lead aft to cockpit.

Construction Details

Cabo Rico’s are renowned for their bulletproof construction. Bulkheads are tabbed in to the hull and the deck; keels are integral to the hull with internal ballast. Tankage is located in the keel to free up space and enhance stability. The hull itself is cored and vacuum bagged for stiffness. The rugged construction is one reason for Cabo Rico’s reputation as a definitive blue water boat. The nearly 27,000 lb. displacement is a good indicator of this 42PH’s rugged construction.
