Dawn Patrol was purchased in November 2012 from the original owners in Annapolis, MD, who owned the boat for only 1 year. When we took delivery, the boat had only 50 hours on the engine, the same number of hours as when the boat had been delivered in the Fall of 2011, according to the delivery captain, who had accompanied us on the sea trial. After purchasing the boat it was sailed down to the Outer Banks where it was pulled at the Bayliss Boatyard for several upgrades including the installation of a Lewmar windlass and Xantrex inverter by a professional marine electrician.
In the Fall of 2013 we took the boat south to Florida for the first of 4 winter trips, taking in both the east and west coast of Florida, the Dry Tortugas and 3 crossings to the Bahamas. Each trip covered over 2000 miles and 100 days of sailing. We’ve plied the ICW from Norfolk to Miami as well as offshore passages from Southport NC to St Simons, Ga., Punta Gorda, Florida to the Dry Tortugas, and multiple Gulf Stream crossings to and from the Bahamas. During this time we’ve encountered every imaginable sort of weather (including a snow storm in Georgetown, SC, overnight gales of 50 + knots of wind and adverse currents and waves in several harbor inlets. While these were great learning experiences for captain and crew alike, never did we feel that Dawn Patrol was not up to the task or feel unsafe. In fact, there were times that the boat felt energized with the responsiveness of a thorough-bred sailing 35 knot wind conditions as we sped along at 8-10 knots running off the wind.
That being said there were also amazing times exploring the shallow waters of Florida and the Bahama’s where other boats can’t go. We’ve anchored in secluded pristine azure coves in 2-3 feet of water and up narrow twisty rivers and tied off to trees on the riverbank. The beauty of a Gemini is you can do all these things and more not limited by draft, mast height or sea worthiness.
This is a rare "Design Touch" 105 MC built in Hunter's Alachua, Florida plant. With superior glass lay-up than the Annapolis built boats, "Dawn Patrol" is finished in warm cherrywood interior, corian countertops, and newly refurbished Sunbrella upholstery. She has been actively cruised, immaculately maintained and equipped with the upgrades cruisers love most. This is the ideal boat for a couple or small family looking to explore the islands, Florida Keys or the shallow waters of North Carolina and the Chesapeake.
