The "Spirit of America" was puchased by her current owner in 1995. The base boat, a Henri Wauquiez Centurion 47, was then transported to the owner's boat yard in the Lake of the Ozarks which was established for the purpose of revamping and retrofiting this boat. A major custom rebuild and retrofit took place over the next ten years, finishing the project in 2005. Commissioning a marine architect, Lee Creekmore, the boat design was modified, with an eye on saving its racing heritage, the result of which was an extremely beautiful, fast, exceptionally well equipped cruiser/racer. The transom modification extended the waterline to 51' and gave the yacht its contemporary look. An addition of an electrically operated sprit pole, complete with eagles head, topped off the new look of the boat. Hull and deck flats were sanded and painted with alwgrip, insuring the boat would always have a bright, clean new look. The retrofit/rebuild was completed in 2005. | Aft stateroom: to starboard - double berth, hanging closet & chest of drawers, midline vanity table with mirror and with hide-away stool, full head with shower to port as well as access to large locker/tool room.
Main salon: U-shaped galley to port with four burner propane stove & oven, double, deep stainless steel sinks with hot/cold pressure water as well as a salt water pump. Refrigeration is separated as a refrigerator/freezer/ice maker, and a 3.5 cubic foot deep freeze. Granite countertops, curved cabinetry, wonderful storage, under-cabinet lighting. Also to port - ample bar with glass and bottle storage as well as the very well thought-out and equipped navigation station. To starboard is a cedar-lined hanging locker, the entrance to the aft cabin and the u-shaped salon area. The teak table has 12 coats of clear LPU, absolutely beautiful. Storage underneath and behind. The forward stateroom has a dressing table, settee and storage to port and a double berth to starboard. Forward of this stateroom is a second full head with shower. The forepeak of this vessel was designed and built as crew quarters, with a v-berth with a suspended basket bunk. Storage surrounds the forepeak as canvas lockers. A large sliding hatch provides light and ventilation, while the door provides a water-tight bulkhead.
