Construction The Unsinkable ETAP 39s In common with all members of the ETAP family, the ETAP 39s has ETAPs unique double-skinned structure. This makes it unsinkable, provides extra hull stiffness, insulates hull and deck to ensure practically condensation-free cabins and gives a unique interior finish. APPROVALS The ETAP 39s meets all CE standards and has been granted CE classification A approval. FEATURES The ETAP 39s is a comfortable, fast ocean-going cruiser with an extremely stable hull. The standard sail configuration gives sufficient sail area to cruise at good speed even in very low wind conditions. On deck, this impressive yacht features a well-sheltered cockpit, wide gangways, high-quality decking and a Seldn mast with two sets of spreaders. The ETAP 39s has a rounded bow section to ensure smoother sailing performance. The ETAP 39s offers surprisingly spacious accommodation below deck, with a comfortable, modern interior and a choice of one or two aft cabins.

General The Unsinkable ETAP 39s The ETAP 39s has a stylishly modern interior hand finished in mahogany woodwork treated with three coats of waterproof acrylic varnish. All furnishings have sipo-mahogany frames, with tastefully coordinated sofa cushions and curtains in attractive colors. The floorboards are of laminate with beech edging, and are screwed down using threaded sockets recessed into the polyester, thus allowing easy removal of the screws if required. The companionway has four curved aluminum treads. The companionway hatchboard is made of maintenance-free synthetic material, with permanent ventilation. Headroom in the companionway area is 195 cm/6' 5". The interior surface under the deck is characteristic of the unique ETAP double-skinned construction, with a textured polyester finish which eliminates the need for waterproof decorating materials. This provides a low-maintenance finish

Cockpit The Unsinkable ETAP 39s SPACIOUSNESS The ETAP 39s has a very spacious and ergonomically-designed self-draining cockpit, with extra-safe seating on the gangway behind the back rests for when the boat is heeling. The seating is finished in solid teak as standard, recessed into the seats for easy cleaning. BATHING PLATFORM The bathing platform is fitted with a folding ladder and a shower, and finished in teak. The stern shower can be shut off using a separate stop-cock. CONTROL SYSTEM The control system comprises a console with a 1.2 m (47) diameter wheel, an integrated engine panel and control lever, a compass and a protective guard. The wheel has a dark leather cover for improved grip and insulation. An additional instrument console is also fitted to allow for mounting extra instruments for the helmsman. STORAGE LOCKERS The two aft cabins version has fully double-skinned cockpit stowage lockers laminated into the deck on both port and starboard sides. This allows a totally waterproof construction with no danger of water penetration into the hull. The single aft cabin version has a much larger cockpit stowage locker on the port side which extends downwards into the hull while remaining partly accessible from the interior. GAS WELL The self-draining gas well holds two 2.75 kg gas cylinders and is fully separated from the boats interior. The gas installation has triple safety protection through a pressure relief valve and stop-cock on the gas cylinder, a stop-cock in the galley and a bimetal valve on the gas cooker. The gas hob is supplied with an on/off tap, relief valve and flexible pipe. Both a manual bilge pump and an electric bilge pump are fitted.

The full size chart table has a switch panel with automatic circuit breakers, a fuel gauge, a voltmeter, a 12 V electrical socket, a 220 V or 110V socket and a water meter. A second 220 V (or 110V) electrical socket is fitted in the galley. A 70 Ah maintenance-free starting battery and a 108 Ah service battery are fitted as standard. A separate switch is fitted for each battery and a diode bridge splitter is installed between the two batteries, allowing them to be charged at the same time by the 60 A alternator or via the shore power socket, while preventing them from discharging each other. The 70 Ah battery is reserved exclusively for engine starting, giving increased operational reliability. A third main switch is fitted as standard to allow isolation of the negative side of the electrical circuit. A shore power socket with a 220 V (or 110V) plug and RCD power breaker are also foreseen. This shore power socket can be used to heat the water in the boiler and to charge the batteries using the optional battery charger. Two separate circuits are provided for the interior lighting, which comprises 12 adjustable halogen spot lamps recessed into the internal surface of the deck. Navigation lights are fitted to European specifications, with a combined 3-colour mast-top light mounted at the top of the mast and with an anchor light above and a forward-facing red and green navigation light. All wiring is led through PVC conduits and all cables are numbered. Spare conduits are fitted to allow for the wiring of additional instruments. Electrical layout diagrams are supplied with the boat.

The ETAP 39s has a Seldn mast with two sets of aerofoil spreaders and 7/8 rigging. The mast is attached to an on-deck mast heel, not stepped through, thus ensuring that the structure is watertight and easily stepped. The mast is supported by an aluminum mast support which steps directly onto the keel. The mast, mast support and keel are connected by electrical conductor. All electric cables from the mast are led through a very solid stainless steel swan-neck and all junctions are located under the deck. The boom has an outhaul and 2 reef lines which are carried aft to the cockpit (single line reefing). The insulated backstay is adjustable via a mechanical backstay tensioner operated using a winch handle. All standing rigging is made from stainless steel wire with rolled cotter terminals and Hasselfors bottlescrews on deck. Diameters: forestay and top shrouds 8 mm, lower shrouds 10 mm and backstay 6 mm. The boom is supported by a combination of a rod kicker and permanent gas-sprung boom downhaul, so that it cannot fall onto the deck or on the spray hood when reefing. The mainsail and headsail halyards each have a steel cable forerunner to ensure minimum stretch and a D-shackle for easy sail attachment. Other equipment includes a flag line on the starboard spreader, a mainsheet and two genoa sheets, and a windex mounted on the masthead. Pilot lines are provided on the mast for all unsupported running rigging such as a spinnaker, 2nd forestay, etc. The ETAP 39s has a partially battened mainsail with a free foot, made by internationally renowned sail makers. The mainsail area is 40.20 m (433 sq.ft.), with three sets of reefing points. The two upper battens extend from leech to luff for ideal shape stability, while the lower two are shorter in order to avoid placing too high a pressure on the cringles and to facilitate hoisting and reefing the sail. The continuous reefing lines are led through blocks attached onto the sail in the reefing eyes, thus reducing friction to a minimum and allowing reefing to be performed entirely from the cockpit. The detachable sail cover is attached to the boom with a rope foot and is not attached to the mainsail. Lazy jacks guide the mainsail into the sail cover. The furling genoa has an area of 36.40 m (392 sq.ft.), with built-in furling sections and a UV protection strip. The mainsail carries the ETAP logo, both sails are fitted with tell-tales and leech tensioners, and all sails are supplied with a sail bag.
